A study to assess visual impacts of a major new building development in scenic and historically important area

The objective of this project was to identify the visual impact of a major new building development.  It was proposed to build be multi-storey and large volume commercial development, located in an natural setting of outstanding views, and surrounded by lower buildings of a smaller scale.  Close to the proposed site is a very important historic battleground of, Scotland’s last battle, therefore the site is of high importance in terms of heritage and archaeology, and the local economy benefits substantially from tourism. Our work involved initial office based research, studying mapping information, followed by site visits to collect extensive information. After collecting sufficient site information I worked on interpreting the results, following established, nationally recognised steps and tools, to present the information and reach objective conclusions in the decision making process.
